The 17 edition of CPHI & PMEC India, organized by Informa Markets, was held at the India Expo Mart and Centre, Greater Noida, Delhi-NCR. The event highlights India’s role as a pharmaceutical powerhouse, with the industry poised to grow from US$ 55 billion to US$ 130 billion by 2030 and US$ 450 billion by 2047. The massive expo showcased advancements in pharma machinery, packaging, laboratory technologies, and more, fostering innovation and partnerships across the global healthcare ecosystem.

The event in which leading companies such as Dr. Reddy’s, Biocon, Glenmark Lifesciences, and Lupin took part showcased innovations alongside advanced manufacturing technologies featured at the PMEC pavilion. Originating from CPHI Global, this expo is South Asia’s premier platform covering the entire pharmaceutical supply chain, from APIs to drug formulation and equipment. PMEC India highlights advancements in pharmaceutical machinery, packaging, and automation.

At this year’s expo, energy efficiency and waste reduction were the key themes. The spotlight was on advancements in pharmaceutical equipment, including packaging technologies, processing systems, and automation.

During a leadership panel discussion, AVPS Chakravarthy, global ambassador, WPO, said India’s innovation in areas such as cancer therapy and drug-resistant antibiotics highlights the nation’s leadership in affordability and efficacy.

Packaging South Asia attended the expo on Day 2 when the show featured sessions on sustainability, ESG practices, and green chemistry in drug discovery. Walking across several halls, we discovered a growth in the number of packaging solution providers in comparison to previous editions.

Tarsons Products, an Indian pharma solution provider, attended the show. The three-decade-old company has experience in plastic labware production and supplies laboratory plasticware for use in molecular biology, cell culture, genomics, proteomics, and immunology.

Kunal Chaudhary, deputy regional sales manager said, “The pharma industry prefers sustainability but cannot opt for it. While all products need to be sterile for medical use, we cannot use recycled content in our products. The pharma industry in India is focused on waste reduction as a means to be sustainable.”

Hyderabad-headquartered Pragati Pack & Print, a known name in the Indian packaging industry, was present at the show. It supplies folding cartons, pharma leaflets, rigid boxes, self-adhesive labels, blister packs, and recycled cartons to the pharma industry.

Srikar Joginapally of Pragati explained, “While the packaging containing chemicals or injectables need to be made of virgin polymers, the pharma industry often opts for recycled cartons for secondary packaging. The trend has been growing more and more and in the coming future, packaging providers will only grow at the CPHI & PMEC India shows.

SteriMax, an Indian manufacturer of blow fill seal and form fill seal machines, displayed running machines at the show. Pramod Kumar Dubey, purchase manager for the company said, “We have successfully developed total indigenous and most economical version of FFS machines for the pharmaceutical industry. Our complete design of the FFS Machine meets the cGMP norms and US FDA Regulatory obligations. Our machine is facilitated with In-Situ CIP(Cleaning In Place) / SIP (Sterilization In Place), which provides printed records of the sterilization cycle as documentary evidence. The FFS machines are designed to integrate the filling cycle continuously over the single machine to ensure complete aseptic production most economically.”
