At Labelexpo India 2024 in Greater Noida, TP Jain, the owner of Monotech Systems, shared insights on the company’s latest advancements and the evolving landscape of the Indian label industry. Monotech, a leader in digital printing solutions, showcased its technologies, including dSpark and Tracesci.
Monotech’s primary focus at the expo was on digital solutions, particularly inkjet technology, which forms the backbone of their offerings. Jain talked about the success of the KolorSmart digital press, which has gained traction both in India and internationally, with multiple installations. Building on this momentum, the company introduced d-Spark, a series of embellishment presses designed to add value to digital printing.
“dSpark comes in two versions: a standalone embellishment press and the dSpark Hybrid, which combines converting, finishing and embellishment capabilities. This hybrid model was showcased publicly for the first time at Labelexpo India,” Jain said. “Together, KolorSmart and dSpark Hybrid offer a comprehensive digital solution, ideal for businesses embarking on their digital journey.”
Growth of digital label printing
Jain acknowledged that digital adoption in the label industry was slow during the early years as customers weighed the benefits of digital versus conventional. However, he highlighted a significant shift in the past year, with increased interest and serious engagement from potential clients.
“We are seeing a change. Customers are not just evaluating digital options but committing to them. Some expanded their operations by purchasing additional machines,” Jain said. “This reflects growing confidence in the technology and its integration in real production scenarios.”
Digital label printing, Jain explained, complements traditional flexo presses by handling short runs more efficiently, allowing flexo presses to focus on longer jobs. He pointed out that standalone digital printers have succeeded in tapping into niche markets for shorter print runs.
Introduction of Tracesci for track and trace solutions
In addition to dSpark, Monotech highlighted Tracesci, its track-and-trace software solution designed to enhance brand authenticity and protection. “With increasing demand for track-and-trace capabilities, Tracesci is gaining momentum globally. It addresses businesses’ growing need for authenticity and brand protection,” Jain said.
Outlook for the Indian label industry
Discussing the Indian label market, Jain emphasized its resilience and growth potential despite economic challenges. While acknowledging a temporary slowdown due to domestic and global uncertainties, including elections, Jain expressed optimism about the medium- to long-term prospects.
“Packaging and printing growth are closely tied to the overall economy. Although there have been short-term challenges, the domestic market’s opportunities ensure a positive trajectory. The label industry will see robust growth as the economy stabilizes and gains momentum,” Jain concluded.
