At the 11th edition of the Speciality Films & Flexible Packaging Global Summit 2024, Michelman India, a solution provider for the coatings, printing & packaging and industrial manufacturing markets, will showcase its water-based coatings and focus on finding more sustainable solutions with other stakeholders. The show, also known as ElitePlus, takes place on 30 September and 1 October at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
“Water-based coatings play a vital role in enabling the success of a wide range of new types of packaging design – including providing multiple functions such as oxygen, moisture vapor, and oil and grease barrier as well as heat seal,” explained Shailesh Nema, vice president, sales, Asia & managing director, India.
Speaking on the company’s expectations from this year’s summit, Nema said the company welcomes the opportunity to exchange insights on technological developments while engaging in face-to-face talks with all value-chain members as they all collectively go to the market with more sustainable solutions.
Speaking on EPR regulations, the company says it is focused on offering solutions that meet legislative and market needs in India as well as in the other regions it serves.
“Increasing extended producer responsibility legislation is collectively driving the industry to work collaboratively to develop more sustainable solutions throughout the value chain – and the pressure to do so is compelling all of us to work faster to lower our environmental footprint,” Nema said.
On sustainable packaging solutions, he said there are many paths to end-of-life solutions – monomaterials are an important option. Both monomaterials and film-to-paper structures have their place within the industry, based on the best fitness for use, he said.
Nema said there is a need to keep pace with evolving technology such as AI, IoT, and robotics. “We will continue to assess how to best leverage technological advances to drive efficiency in our innovations and production. It’s clear that all of this technology will have a dramatic impact on how the packaging industry moves forward,” Nema said.
This year, Michelman celebrated two awards – The Sustainability Awards by Packaging Europe and the FEDIL Environment Prize for its oneBarrier FibreCycle solution, a recycle-ready, high-barrier, paper-based alternative to plastic-based flexible packaging.
