Jindal Films, a global leader in the development and manufacture of specialty films for the flexible packaging and labeling markets, has introduced the latest advancements in sustainable flexible packaging with its Ethy-Lyte high barrier BOPE films, which it will present at Fachpack 2024.
These new bi-axially oriented Ethy-Lyte high barrier films will change the flexible packaging market by enabling fully recyclable mono PE packaging structures. The excellent barrier properties of these BOPE films will allow substitutes metallized polyester, aluminum foil and other barrier layers within non-recyclable, mixed polymer laminates. This innovation aligns perfectly with existing PE recycling streams and represents a significant step towards more eco-friendly packaging.
These Ethy-Lyte high barrier printing films, including 25HD800, are transparent, one side coated with EVOH and suitable for reverse printing. They provide excellent gas and aroma protection and are designed as a printing web for lamination with PE sealing films, to create recyclable, two-ply mono PE laminates. These high barrier mono PE duplex laminates offer the most efficient recyclable packaging solutions for a variety of high barrier applications.
The portfolio is now being expanded with the introduction of the new film type 25HD813. Two-sided processable, 25HD813 offers an additional option to apply full or partial varnish on the outside, allowing matt-gloss effects to be realized for high end printing designs which enhance the visual appeal of packaged products.Â
Ethy-Lyte high barrier metallized lamination films: 25HDM880 provides excellent gas and aroma protection on ‘ultra high barrier’ level and is designed as a mid-layer for 3-ply mono PE laminates. This film can be used as a substitute for conventional metallized PET, or even aluminum films, resulting in fully recyclable mono PE laminates.

Typical applications of Ethy-Lyte high-barrier films are flexible packaging for sensitive products, that require protection from oxygen, water vapor and aroma:
ï‚· Fresh food such as cheese, grated cheese, meat products and processed food, which needs to be stored under chilled conditions in the fridge: transparent packaging solutions in 2-ply laminates.Â
ï‚· Nuts, dried fruits and snack packaging solutions in Duplex and Triplex laminates.Â
ï‚· Coffee: long shelf life packaging for ground coffee, coffee beans or coffee pads powder, in Duplex and Triplex laminates.
Offering additional options for complex mono-PE high-barrier packaging solutions, these new Ethy-Lyte high barrier films complement Jindal’s existing portfolio of BOPE printing films. They provide optimal protection for sensitive food products, while also delivering an attractive shelf appearance.Â

Jindal Films will also showcase a range of printable and barrier BOPP technologies on its stand (Hall 5 Stand 319) at FachPack 2024. These innovative technologies are designed to help brand-owners facilitate the switch from non recyclable laminates to mono-material mechanically recyclable PP-based laminates across numerous flexible packaging markets.Â
Recyclable PP mono-material solutionsÂ
A highlight of Jindal Films’ presence at FachPack 2024 will be live machine run demonstrations with key partners using PP mono-material barrier solutions focusing on demanding vertical form fill seal (VFFS) market segments. Typically, these VFFS machines are used for sensitive products requiring high barrier performance and previously ran non-recyclable structures based on PET, aluminum foil, barrier PET and PE substrates.Â
These live demonstrations will reflect the great versatility of polypropylene (PP) films which offer an excellent balance of mechanical, barrier, optical, and heat seal properties unequalled by most other materials while being mechanically recyclable.Â
Wolf Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH (Hall 1 Stand 428) will run a side gusseted VFFS machine (Green model) for sensitive powders using a PP barrier laminate produced by WIPF AG (Hall 4A Stand 109).Â
Syntegon (Hall 1 Stand 257) will display packs made on their block bottom bag VFFS machine (SVX Agile model) designed for sensitive products such as snacks, nuts and mixes using a PP-based barrier laminate produced by A. Hatzopoulos (Hall 4 Stand 434).Â
These two VFFS machines typically run PET/Alu/PE or PET/MET-PET/PE laminates that are considered non-recyclable across Europe. The 3-ply high barrier PP laminates being used at FachPack 2024 will use Bicor MB100, Metallyte 16MM883 and a low SIT cast PP film.Â
‒ BICOR 12MB100 is a unique thin BOPP film with improved heat resistance designed to replace PET films as reverse print outer webs and can be used both in rotogravure or flexographic processes. ‒Â
Metallyte 16MM883 is an ultra high-barrier (UHB) vacuum metallized BOPP film used for very demanding applications requiring excellent protection against moisture, gasses, light, aromas and mineral oils.Â
Jindal Films is working on broadly implementing PP mono-material recyclable solutions across all packaging formats.
