At the 8th Injection, Blow, Roto Molding & PET Summit 2023 that was recently held in Mumbai, Christophe Beck, general manager, PET tooling at Husky Technologies, said that PET is a true packaging solution for the environment and the economy. He said that PET can be made even more sustainable by maximizing the recyclable content, light weighting the packaging, and making closures compatible with recycling.
“We believe that PET is a true packaging solution for environment as well as the economy. It ticks all the boxes that you need for a packaging to be sustainable,” Beck said.
Beck also said that some of the biggest consumer brands like PepsiCo, Coca Cola, Danone, and Diageo are now opting for rPET. rPET is being increasingly adopted in segments such as bottled water, carbonated soft drinks, juices, sauces, home and personal care, and liquid dairy drinks.
Husky is committed to India
India is a global leader in PET recycling, with almost 90% of PET bottles being recycled. The Indian government has approved rPET for food contact applications, which is a significant step towards promoting the use of recycled PET in the country.
Beck said that Husky Technologies is committed to India and has been operating in the country for almost 25 years. It has a campus in Chennai and 250 systems running in the country. Beck said that Husky is optimistic about the Indian market and will keep growing its presence here.
“India is a global leader in PET recycling and has now approved the use of rPET for food contact applications. We see significant investment and development in PET recycling. We are very optimistic about the Indian market and Husky will keep growing its presence here,” Beck said.
The increasing adoption of sustainable PET packaging in India is a positive development for the environment. PET is a lightweight and durable material that is well-suited for a variety of packaging applications. By using more recycled PET and light-weighting, brand owners and the packaging suppliers can reduce their environmental impact and help to create a more circular economy.
