
The 16th edition of Indpack 2014 was inaugurated on 16 January at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi amongst much enthusiasm from the packaging industry. The inaugural ceremony of this three-day exhibition was chaired by eminent members of the packaging fraternity. The chief guest at the inauguration was Anita Agnihotri, special secretary and financial advisor, ministry of commerce and industry, and the guest of honour for the ceremony was Ashok Chaturvedi, chairman of Uflex.
NC Saha, director of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) delivered the welcome address flagging off the event. “Indpack 2014 is an initiative to bring stakeholders of the packaging industry together in an attempt to highlight the key opportunities and challenges in packaging. I am confident that this three-day exhibition will provide a ground for fruitful business idea generation and implementation,” said Saha.
Emphasizing the theme of the exhibition, Rakesh Shah, managing director of W&H and chairman of IIP Delhi, said that the packaging industry in India must wake up to international standards. Hailing Indpack 2014 as a total packaging event, Shah wished all the exhibitors and participants success over the next three days. Subodh Gupta, managing director of Triveni Gerresheimer and the chairman of the exhibiting committee at IIP, delivered his address and wished success and growth for the packaging industry in 2014.AshokChaturvedi of Uflex, who is a leading name in the flexible packaging domain, shared his vision about the packaging industry and urged packaging companies to adhere to quality instead of merely high volumes. “We must strive towards providing quality to our consumers. There is no easy way to achieve success unless you provide consistent quality; volumes will automatically flow once customer faith is instated,” he said.
The chief guest at the inauguration, Anita Agnihotri congratulated IIP on its success in not only running the institute successfully, but also for hosting Indpack every year successfully. “Thepackagingindustry inIndiais transformingandIIPmustplay amajorrole ineducatingpeople aboutitsbenefits.Newmethods, advancedtechnologyandwiderapplicationshaveallaidedthis transformation.However,wemustnow focus on sustainable packaging through the use of more nature-based resources. Thiswill ensure thatintelligentpackagingfinds acceptance,” she said.The final vote ofthanks was delivered by industry veteranSunil Jain, president of Rajoo Engineers and the chairman of Indpack 2014. “I hope all IIP members, exhibitors and participants find this event useful and continue to extend their support in making India a leaderin the global packaging scene.”
