The Jindal Poly Film plant at Mundhegaon near Nashik caught fire after an apparent explosion on Sunday morning 1 January 2023. At first two fatalities that of Anjali Yadav age 20, and Mahima Kumari Prasad Singh age 27 were reported along with 17 persons injured with several hospitalized in serious condition. A third body was recoverd from the site on Wednesday 4 January 2023. The exact reason behind the blast is yet to be known.

The fire is reported to have started at around 11am on Sunday morning and took till 4am on Monday morning to subside and control with smoke and fires still coming from various parts of the premises. There are several YouTube clips that record three successive blasts and smoke billowing high above the plant. Fire engines from Nashik, Thane and Bhiwandi were summoned to assist. As of 10 January 2022, there is no mention of the explosion and fire on the Jindal Polyfilms website.

In the first half of 2022, the group divested 25% of Jindal Poly Films’ packaging film business to Canadian investor Brookfield for approximately Rs 2,000 crore.
