Mumbai’s Kohli Industries launched its latest ELS gravure printing press, Thea AR-360, at its Ambernath plant during the three-day international Open House from 1 to 3 September. It showcased the advanced technology that the company has incorporated in this press.
“The industry response to our new Thea gravure press is very positive. Visitors had an opportunity to witness the great advantages that this new press offers over several other gravure presses available in the market,” the company’s director Kaku Kohli said. Less energy consumption, lower ink and solvent consumption, minimum manpower, fast change over of new jobs, minimum wastage, Thea answers the need of all converters. It has the lowest cost of production, thus, providing the best advantage for profitable and sustainable short-runs.
According to Kohli, the event saw a steady influx of domestic and international visitors. “There were some customers who were very new to the flexible packaging industry. They wanted to know how we can help them set up a packaging unit to compete with the existing players. Most of the people gained an insight on how to save power, inks, solvents, labour and reduce wastage of expensive raw materials,” he said.
Quick and easy changeover of new jobs is a real challenge in any gravure industry. It is the biggest hurdle for converters, who up til now were unable to print short-runs or were finding short-runs unprofitable and non sustainable,” said Kohli.
Commenting on the new launch, he said, “This press has many unique features. It has minimal heat load as compared to other gravure presses, and low consumption of ink and solvent.” On plans for new machines, the director said, “Within this year, you will hear about our innovative machines.”
Kohli is a family-run company that has been in the business for over 40 years. It is known for manufacturing rotogravure printing presses, coaters, laminators and slitter-rewinders. Currently, its installations are spread over 25 countries.
