At Labelexpo India 2024, DIC India showcased its commitment to the evolving needs of the labeling and packaging industry, with a sharp focus on flexo printing technology. Mahesh Purandare of DIC India highlighted the company’s strategic direction to focus on their increasing involvement in the narrow web and flexo segments.

This year, our theme revolves around labels, particularly as this is a label-centric expo. While we provide for both the narrow and wide web applications, we are showcasing innovations for single-sleeve and wraparound labels,” Purandare said.

One of the highlights at DIC’s stand was its UV solutions, including LED inks and speciality coatings for pre-sensitized labels. “We have introduced texture varnishes and other speciality coatings, which bring enhanced aesthetics and functionality. Additionally, in the wraparound labels space, we are developing applications that were traditionally gravure-based but are now shifting to flexo,” he noted.

This industry-wide shift from gravure to flexo has gained significant momentum, according to Purandare. “The transition is driven by the practicality and efficiency of flexo. For instance, in wraparound labels, where job volumes are smaller, flexo offers quicker turnaround times,” he said.

Over the past six to seven years, DIC India has steadily expanded its focus on flexo segment. “We are leveraging technology from our parent DIC Sun Chemical Group, which allows us to bring cutting-edge solutions to India for the flexo printing segment,” Purandare added.

The growing market interest in flexo stems from its versatility. “Flexo is an evolving process, and its adaptability is unmatched. We supply flexo inks not only for labels but also for flexible packaging, corrugation, and juice cartons. It’s a comprehensive solution for diverse applications,” he explained.
