Packaging applications have emerged as key demand drivers for the plastics industry in recent times. Hence, Junagadh-based manufacturers of extrusion machinery, Rajoo Engineers has diversified into many other technologies that provide services to the packaging industry such as thermoforming and vacuum forming. Sunil Jain, president, Rajoo Engineers, said, “One of the most important driving factors for machinery manufacturers is reducing packaging film thickness. By producing lighter weight materials, extruders and converters are playing a crucial role in bringing down logistics cost and thereby reducing the overall environment footprint of the industry. Material conservation is also the driving philosophy behind Rajoo’s product development.”
Displaying some of their flagship blown film extrusion machines at the Plastivision India 2013 exhibition in Mumbai, Jain said, “Plastivision India is always a good opportunity to show case our presence in the industry, to establish contacts and maintain commercial relationships. However, we are unable to launch any new technologies at PVI because, unlike Plastindia, PVI lacks infrastructure such as power and space. While the organizers are doing a great job in marketing the event and getting a large number of quality visitors, we are unable to display heavy machinery at this show.”
Despite these challenges, Rajoo Engineers is very optimistic about the industry’s growth prospects. Khushboo Doshi, executive director of Rajoo Engineers, said, “Keeping in mind the current volatile market scenario, it is very important to highlight Indian-made goods so that the Indian plastics industry is guarded against uncertainties in the global markets, especially foreign exchange rates. Plastivision India serves as a platform for showcasing Indian-made goods before a large number of Indian visitors and even to an international audience.”
