Gujarat-based flexible packaging company, Swiss Pac, has invested in a Flexcel NX Wide 4260 System from Miraclon, diversifying the company’s print into the world of flexographic printing. The Shine LED Lamp Kits innovated by Miraclon combined with LED exposure, and the pair of new flexo presses from Comexi, a CI flexo – and a world-class 10–color mid-web from Multitec, will allow Swiss Pac to achieve optimum results and significant sustainability gains.Â
Swiss Pac which is an existing gravure printer with Pelican gravure presses and Nordmeccan laminators and multiple Totani pouching machines, recently installed an HP Indigo 25K digital press. It recently ordered a world-class Multitec S2 670mm mid–web flexo 10-color press and a Comexi F4 CI flexo press, which should both be installed in the first quarter of 2025.Â
With the addition of in-house flexo prepress and high-level flexo printing capabilities, the company’s plan seems to aim at achieving a level of quality and color optimization that will allow a smooth transition of production between digital, flexo, and gravure. According to Miraclon, Swiss Pac is confident in handling gravure and digital jobs, and with the flexibility that Flexcel Solutions provide, it can now choose which jobs can be completed in any of the workflows including flexo, resulting in its goal of visual parity on the shelf without compromise.
Typically, multiple changeovers with spot colors can disrupt production. However, by implementing Expanded Color Gamut (ECG) with Flexcel Solutions, Swiss Pac can now perform quick changeovers with minimal interruption. This is made possible through standardized press parameters and a clear objective to print by numbers. The high solid ink densities and wide tonal range covering all 256 grey levels that Flexcel NX offers are crucial for realizing the full potential of ECG.
In addition to the FLEXCEL NX Wide 4260 System, Swiss Pac’s investment in the Shine LED Lamp Kits (that sold like hotcakes at drupa24) will assist in faster plate exposure, and reduce bottlenecks while eliminating plate remakes. The outcome should be better exposure consistency and uniformity, further reducing waste on press and thus contributing to sustainability gains.
With all of these advancements, Swiss Pac together with Miraclon, can experience the benefits of modern flexo including increased uptime, less troubleshooting, reduced waste, and more efficient job scheduling. Swiss Pac is further positioned to commercialize its more sustainable offerings with a productive and simplified production process. It advances its ability to transition work traditionally printed with other print processes to a more flexible approach.
