The Delhi-based company, NBG Printographic Machinery, has its core competence in manufacturing web offset presses. However, for the last few years, the company has also been offering a complete range of solutions for the corrugation and monocarton segments of the packaging industry in India starting from flute laminator to automatic die-punching as well as corrugation lines. The web offset manufacturer is a representative for foil stamping, diecutting and folder-gluer manufactured by Shanghai Yawa Printing Machinery and an automatic flute laminator from Dingshung.

NBG Printographic Machinery was one of the key exhibitors at the Corrtech Expo held at Udaipur. Packaging South Asia spoke to Sudheer Karusala, sales manager for the packaging division of NBG Printographic Machinery who says that the greatest need of the hour for the packaging industry in India is automation.

Karusala feels that over the next decade, automation and other related technologies will seep into every industrial sector imaginable. It has already affected manufacturing in the country, especially in the automobile sector, contributing to the reduction of its employment intensity over the last six years. He says, “The corrugation industry in India is suffering from the issue of lack of skilled manpower and as a result corrugating companies are looking for more automation in their corrugating lines. NBG is offering more precision and automation and quality through the solutions and machines that we provide.”

Lack of awareness and proper education is also a factor in India and it is the responsibility of the manufacturers to guide the printing and packaging fraternity feels Karusala. If the Indian companies become a bit more responsive towards the change in demands ofthe customers, they can reap a lot more than at presentfeels Karusala.

Although NBG had no machines for demonstration at its stand at Corrtech Expo, Karusala says they have big plans forthe forthcoming Printpack 2015 exhibition to be held at Greater Noida from 11 to 15 February 2015. Although Karusala did not wish to discloseNBG’s plans for Printpack, he tells us that similartoPrintpack 2013 where NBGfocused on Dinshung’s Midas Speedy, an auto litho laminator press for the converting segment especially forthe corrugated industry, NBG would certainly display machines from a few of its principals this time too.

NBG Printographic Machinery has already been able to sell around 10 machines in India and it is a steady progress says Karusala. He is optimistic about the overall growth potential of the industry and thinks that NBG should be able to sell around 50 machines within the next two years
