To meet the demands of the packaging and label printing market in India, Fujifilm will most likely launch the new Flenex range of water washable flexo plates by the end of the first quarter of the 2015-2016 financial year. “There is a huge potential in the packaging and label printing segments in India, driven primarily by the food industry. Demand for better, hygienic and attractive packaging is on the upswing in India and the trend will continue as the economy and population grow,” said Yasunobu Nishiyama, managing director, Fujifilm India, who took charge of the Indian operations in August last year after spending close to three years with Fujifilm Malaysia.

With the introduction of the new Flenex series, Fujifilm is debuting the Direct Laser Engraving (DLE) system, with the FD series flexographic plate, and also the waterwashable Laser Ablation Mask (LAM) and analog system with the FW series flexographic plate. “Today labels are looked at by brand managers not as below-the-line (BTL)butasabove-the-line(ATL)concept. Label sare no more just for information but also for advertisement,” said SMRamprasad, assistant vice president, graphics art division, Fujifilm India, who joined the company in December last year. “We wanted to give an environmentally sustainable product for highgrowth segments such aspackaging and labels.” Ramprasad informed that the company is in the process of conducting a field trial and selecting certain beta customers for production trials before the products formally come into the marketlaterthis year.
