DJS Printers, a sister concern of Sangat Group, is a pioneer in innovative packaging solutions serving both leading domestic and international clients in the Indian food packaging space. Within a span of just a few years, the company has set up a state-of-the-art infrastructure in terms of factories at multiple locations, packaging machines, a skilled manpower base, quality labs and a dedicated R&D team working closely with its clients to develop new age packaging concepts.

Today, DJS is a one-stop shop for all packaging solutions for the Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) segment with strong Indian as well as multinational brands operating in the country across the multifaceted needs of the segment. The scale and size of its operations, with three manufacturing units in Manesar and production areas spanning 1 lakh (100,000) sq. ft. along with its acquired prowess in best practices have helped DJS win the confidence of leading QSR brands. The comprehensive DJS product portfolio includes monocartons, liner and corrugated cartons, paper cups and lids, buckets, paper bags and pouches, wraps and tissues. Its innovative portfolio has helped quick service food franchises and outlets in using customized packaging solutions for their products, which are both environment- and user-friendly besides being cost effective.

DJS Printers has won several awards and certifications for its commitment to quality, which is best displayed in their achievement of BRC certification with first grade in the first attempt itself—a feat achieved by only a handful of companies so far. Other milestones include ISO 9001: 2008 certification, HACCP, the FSC chain of custody for sourcing of paper from sustainable and managed forests. Its basket of awards earned from clients includes Best Innovative Packaging Supplier, Best Supplier, Excellence Award and Crisis like Collaboration award.

DJS puts great emphasis on sustainability, environment and compliance with the highest standards of Global Food Safety and Security. It has identified a paper that does not need any kind of coating and use of plastics and does not let fat penetrate to the other side for burgers and sandwich wraps. This approach and the need for innovative packaging solutions has led to its strong association with Swedish paper packaging solutions supplier BillerudKorsnas.

Navdeep Singh of DJS Printers says, “This innovative solution saves a lot of cost and does away with one step in the entire manufacturing process. BillerudKorsnas paper comes from the cultivated forests of Scandinavia and is made of 100% virgin pulp. It is a high-strength packaging grade paper and is approved by FDA for direct food contact. This is a unique combination of an innovative and cost-effective green and sustainable solution. We have strived hard to ensure that the customization needed by our customers is done under strict time-lines and is in complete adherence to global quality parameters.”

Although the calendar year of 2015 was not very good for the food packaging industry in India, Singh feels that this year has been pretty good so far with a significant rise in demand. He says, “By the end of this financial year, we hope to achieve a growth of 30 to 35% over the previous year.”

In order to maintain this momentum, DJS is focussing on expansion in its paper cup and board sections. Singh quips, “I am still looking at my options. I plan to add a new roll to sheet diecutter soon. We will also install a new Heidelberg 6-color press with UV coater press within the next six months.” Singh visited drupa 2016 and has already taken a look at the other equipment he is planning to install in the near future although he states that he did not find anything new or superior there to what is already being exhibited in other Chinese or Japanese exhibitions.

Zaheer Abbas of BillerudKorsnas India says, “We were not present in this segment at all before and now we are here only because of our association with DJS. I think we have a fantastic relationship with them and our R&D team has come up with solutions that they needed with mutual confidence and understanding. We hope to keep supporting DJS Printers striving for excellence with our innovative products and solutions.”
