Plastic packaging player Parekhplast used the platform of InnoPack Pharma Confex 2016 to talk about its latest offering for the pharma industry, tubes and closures for effervescent tablets. At the event Parekhplast had put up a stand where officials from the company met various stakeholders in the pharma industry. The company has been participating at various CPHI events in India, such as P-MEC, as well as overseas. However, this was Parekhplast’s first participation at InnoPack.

“We launched our latest products, tubes and closures for effervescent tablets in November 2015 and thought InnoPack would be a good place to promote the product by meeting people from various pharma companies. This is a speciality product and we are among the very first to make something like this in India. These tubes and closures control moisture, breakage and light,” says Pooja Dahanukar, vice president – corporate, Parekhplast.

The Mumbai-based company has been in plastic packaging for more than three decades and provides solutions to industries such as paints, food, pharma, dairy, pesticides. It has three plants in India. One at Palghar, which is dedicated only to pharma packaging, another plant is located at Satara and the third one is at Hyderabad. The tubes and closures for effervescent tables are being made at a separate unit which is an extension of the Hyderabad plant. Currently, this new line of products is primarily for European customers as consumption of effervescent tablets is very high there but Dahanukar believes scope for growth in the effervescent tables market is much bigger in India.

“Many studies have indicated that a large number of Indians are deficient in vitamins and minerals. And we are talking millions here. So the room for growth in demand for effervescent tablets is huge. These products are very popular in Europe and we expect their popularity will only grow in India. In fact, lot of Indian players have shown great interest in our products. We can provide quick solutions to Indian pharma companies as lead time would be very short,” she adds.

Parekhplast is supplying these tubes and closures to five companies located in Europe. Since exports are important, all the company’s facilities meet international standards and comply with EU regulations. Talking about the company’s first participation in InnoPack, Dahanuka says the experience was more than satisfactory as officials were able to meet many pharma industry stalwarts and discuss many important developments. Dahanuka also gave an informative presentation about Quick Pak tubes and Seal Dry closures at the InnoPack conference.
