Clariant, a specialty chemicals company, introduced Sorb-It Pharma desiccant bags with its healthcare packaging business line on 18 May 2018. The company claims that desiccant bags offer an advanced range of desiccants produced in new ISO 15378 GMP certified facilities in order to adhere to global standards for primary pharmaceutical packaging.
Sorb-It Pharma desiccant bags are filled with silica-gel desiccant and come in a variety of standard sizes. The bags are created to protect bulk drugs, finished drugs during excursion and storage, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and work-in-process.
Mark Florez, product manager of Clariant Healthcare Packaging said, “The introduction of Sorb-It Pharma desiccant bags marks a final milestone in Clariant’s plan to produce its pharmaceutical desiccant lines in ISO 15378 certified production environments.” He further said, “ISO 15378 is globally recognized by the pharmaceutical industry and it is important that we offer our full range of products accordingly.”
The new product line for bulk pharmaceuticals by Sorb-It Pharma is the outcome of a recent investment by Clariant in a new ISO 15378 GMP certified facility at its Belen, New Mexico plant.
Clariant already produces two other types of pharmaceutical desiccant products—packets and canisters—that are used in finished drug product containers in ISO 15378 GMP certified facilities. The same complaince procedures are followed in the manufacturing equipment used to make all of the company’s desiccant products—desiccant bags, packets, and canisters.
Since Clariant produces the same product at multiple locations, it has the back-up capacity to meet the Business Continuity Planning (BCP) requirements of global pharmaceutical and healthcare customers. The back-up allows Clariant to produce Sorb-It Pharma desiccant bags not only in New Mexico, but also in Dongguan, China, Romorantin, and France.
