The New Delhi-headquartered label printer Wonderpac intends to expand the gamut of solutions it offers once it commissions its newly booked HP Indigo 6K digital press, Trilok Mittal, owner of the company, told Packaging South Asia during Labelexpo India 2022 where he struck the deal.
Wonderpac’s decision to buy the Indigo 6K digital press was announced on 10 November, the first day of the four-day expo in Greater Noida.
“The HP Indigo is a six-color press and with it we can print mono cartons, shrink sleeves, self-adhesive labels as well as flexible packaging films. We can do variable data printing. We will be able to offer a wide range of solutions to our customers. With our current set-up, we are not able to print things such as shrink sleeves. We will now be able to offer all sorts of labeling solutions under one roof,” Mittal says.
Wonderpac, established in 1999-2000, supplies labels to sectors such as retail, FMCG, airlines, and pharma, among others. The company installed its first flexo press in 2003, the second in 2010, and the third flexo press in 2013. Then in 2019, it installed a Jetsci UV inkjet label production press. It has its manufacturing unit at Kundli in Sonepat in Haryana, near Delhi.
“We have the flexo and the UV inkjet technologies at our disposal and now we have the HP Indigo toner-based technology as well. This will strengthen our capabilities. We have been following the HP Indigo technology for many years and finally, we have it. It is really exciting,” Mittal says.
HP Indigo, in collaboration with Technova Imaging Solutions, presented and demonstrated the HP Indigo 6K digital press at the expo. It showed finished products produced on the HP Indigo 6K press throughout the four days of Labelexpo India.
Increasing demand for short-run jobs
The Covid pandemic and the lockdown boosted short-run jobs in the label industry. Wonderpac too saw the demand for short-run labels rise significantly in the past two-three years.
“We are working with a lot of customers who demand only short quantities. Digital technology helps us to do work that is not possible on a flexo press. In fact, a substantial portion of our revenue comes from the digital side of our operations. We expect the demand for short-run jobs to expand further given the proliferation of startups,” Mittal concludes.
