Finat Radar suggests that the number
of digital label printing presses
installations surpassed those of
conventional presses
For the first time, installations of digital label printing presses surpassed those of conventional presses in Europe in 2017. This was reported by Finat Radar, a publication brought out twice a year by international label association Finat. This market monitor compiles focused research and analysis based on surveys conducted by LPC.
This issue of Finat Radar contains a special section on the evolution of digital label printing in Europe and the Finat Digital Press Index, which reports press installation volumes from every European digital press manufacturer in 2017. These figures revealed that almost 300 new digital presses were installed in 2017 and this figure exceeded the number of new conventional label printing press installations for the first time in any calendar year.
The survey further concluded that this trend is going to continue, with 45% of Finat convertors indicating that they intend to buy/install a digital press over the next 18 months. Most of these installations feature ink-jet systems rather than toner-based or hybrid systems. Almost 60% of the digital presses installed in Europe in 2017 cost between EUR 250,000 and EUR 750,000; 10% were priced below EUR 250,000 and 8% cost more than EUR 1 million.
