Bareks
Bareks and ExxonMobil have joined their forces for a revolutionary collaboration

Bareks, an innovative player in the packaging industry and one of Bakioğlu Holding Packaging Group Companies, has teamed up with ExxonMobil, one of the largest publicly traded international energy and petrochemical companies, to offer its customers certified-circular polyethylene (PE) films leveraging ExxonMobil’s ExxtendTM technology for advanced  recycling in food contact applications.

According to the company, this tie-up reinforces Bareks’ mission to lead the industry toward a more circular economy. This project aims to revolutionize flexible packaging by  introducing certified-circular PE film, the next generation of eco-friendly packaging materials that set the standard for safety and circularity.

Advanced or chemical recycling technologies, which enable the production certified-circular PE films for food applications, offer a solution to some of the limitations of recycling due to contamination or degradation.

Instead of simply melting and reshaping plastics, chemical recycling employs various processes such as depolymerization, pyrolysis, or gasification to break down complex plastics into their original monomers or other valuable chemical components. These processes convert plastic waste into building blocks that can be used to produce new plastics, fuels, or other valuable chemicals.

Advanced recycling also supports expanding the range of plastics that can be recycled, including PE films. By significantly reducing waste, customers can embrace a more sustainable approach to their packaging needs while ensuring the utmost safety and quality of their products.

Commenting on the successful partnership, Yiğitcan Çelikoğlu, GM of Bareks, said, “At Bareks, we believe that collective action drives real change. Our collaboration with ExxonMobil exemplifies our shared dedication to innovation and support for a more circular economy within the flexible packaging sector. Adding certified-circular PE film to our portfolio is a significant milestone in our ongoing journey towards a more circular future.”

“We are delighted to work with Bareks on this important project and excited that our ISCC PLUS certified-circular  PE leveraging Exxtend technology and mass balance attri bution will play an important role in helping to address a  challenge facing the food industry,” said Thierry Debarneville, Polyethylene Sales manager, Europre, ExxonMobil.

In addition to its performance benefits, Bareks’ certified-circular PE film holds the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certification. For plastic waste processing, ISCC Plus uses a chain-of-custody accounting model based on mass balance attribution. This approach allows manufacturers to track the total  mass of plastic waste in its production system—after ac counting for process losses—through auditable bookkeep ing and then attribute that mass to certified-circular, virgin-quality polymers.

Bareks is an innovative player in the packaging industry, specializing in cutting-edge solutions that promote  sustainability and eco-consciousness.

ExxonMobil is one of the largest publicly traded  international energy and petrochemical companies.  The corporation’s primary businesses – Upstream, Product  Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions – provide products that  enable modern life, including energy, chemicals, lubricants, and  lower-emissions technologies and services.  ExxonMobil holds  an industry-leading portfolio of resources, and is one of the  largest integrated fuels, lubricants and chemical companies in  the world.
