Shree Pack Containers, a leading carton converter based in Vasai near Mumbai, recently invested in a new Bobst Experfold folder gluer with the Accubraille feature. This marks the company’s second acquisition of a Bobst folder gluer, reaffirming its commitment to cutting-edge solutions in the carton packaging industry. The first Bobst folder gluer, an Ambition model, was installed almost seven years ago.
“We required a folder gluer with a braille embossing feature. And since we were already using a Bobst Ambition folder gluer, it was a no-brainer when we had to make a choice. It was always going to be a Bobst. The technology that Bobst offers is top class while their after-sales service is excellent. Having a strong local team in India is a big advantage when it comes to after-service,” said Rohan Rai, executive director, Shree Pack Containers.
With the Accubraille feature, Shree Pack Containers now can cater to newer customers, Rai said. The biggest advantage of the Bobst Accubraille is that offers a rotary embossing process, which gives consistent dot quality and height, and it is just one tool per job with a changeover time of five to six minutes.
“The new Bobst Experfold folder gluer with Accubraille gives us a competitive edge, especially in catering to the niche market of braille embossed cartons,” Rai added.
Shree Pack Containers was founded by Rohan’s father Balkrishna Rai in the year 2000. The company shifted to its current location in Vasai in 2004. The company has three verticals: cartons, labels, and leaflets.
The carton printing and converting facility is spread over 25,000 square feet while the labels and leaflet printing division is located in a second unit with an area of 30,000 square feet. The company has seven offset printing lines and other converting equipment in the carton printing segment.
The company has a top line of over Rs 50 crore. It produces about 2 crore (20 million) cartons per month and uses about 300-400 tons of paperboard every month. About 85% of its customers are in the pharmaceutical industry, 5% in the agricultural space, and the remaining across various industries.
Shree Pack Containers eyes the export market
At present, Shree Pack Containers’ customers are primarily in India but it gradually plans to expand in the global market. Having begun supplying cartons to the US and the UK markets and is eying a bigger share of the export pie.
“We have a stable business in India and are seriously looking at expanding in the developed markets. We have the capability and the capacity to provide the best quality cartons in the quantity required. Global customers are looking to India to source packaging material. To mark our presence in the global market, we will take part in international exhibitions frequently,” Rai said.
Bullish about Indian market
While it is seriously approaching \the export market, Shree Pack Containers is at the same time very bullish about the growth of Indian packaging overall and the carton markets in particular.
“We are eying exports as a way to diversify our business geographically. However, at the end of the day, India remains our core market and we are extremely bullish about the growth here. The cartons industry will continue to grow in double digits and so will Shree Pack Containers,” Rai said.
The company plans to strengthen its converting department and build a seamless manufacturing unit that will have all of its three divisions under one roof.
“Right now, we are in an industrial area and our operations are spread across various floors. Our medium-term plan is to build a modern integrated manufacturing shed that will house all three divisions. This will make our manufacturing set-up seamless. We hope to execute this in the next three to four years,” Rai concluded.
