CAS, a well-known company in the weighing industry since 1999, exports its products to over 120 countries. In 2013, CAS introduced thermal transfer ribbons – manufactured in Korea and distributed worldwide. The company provides various products of thermal
transfer ribbons such as wax, wax resin, and resin formulations especially designed for a broad range of products. In Korea, CAS is one of the leading companies and has recently taken the initiative to provide its services in the metro cities of India.

Sunil Choudhary, sales manager, CAS Chemical, says, “Our head office is in Gurgaon and our products are mainly used to print barcodes. According to Indian regulations, a barcode is compulsory on each consumer product. For the next five years, the growth in barcodes
will be 15%. Hence, India is a growing market for thermal transfer ribbons. A majority of the ribbons are black but colors like red, blue and green are also available to meet demands by customers.”

“In India, 70% wax is used, 20 to 22% wax resin and around 5 to 8% resin is used.Various products such as wax and resin ribbons have a shelf-life, which is more than five years and are used in signage, logos, tickets and price tags. Our resin ribbons are used in wash care labels in the garment industry; labels, textile and apparels on substrates such as coated labels and tags; coated paper, glossy and semi-glossy paper; and synthetic paper and films such as PET, PP and PVC. Wax products are used in shipping and inventory labeling. CAS’
thermal transfer ribbons are positioned to meet a customer’s needs with excellent print quality, durable images, scratch and smudge resistance,” adds Choudhary.

“The manufacturing plant in Korea is equipped with state-of-the-art ink production facilities and an ink coating process to generate high-quality products and lower production cost with the help of a computer aided system. A carrier film of 4.5micronisusedas the base and ink coating is applied ranging from 2.2 to 1.5 micron on a silicon base, which acts as a heat resistant coating for thermal transfer ribbons offering sustained printhead life. After coating, rolls are rewoundas jumbo rolls. Jumbo rolls are exported to India where convertors slit the rolls to the required weight and size. Finished rolls are supplied to end users and dealers in the market. After 18 months we plan to provide services in more than 12 countries and expect a positive response from the Indian market,” concludes Choudhary
