Udhna, Surat based Weepac is a leading name in packaging. From folding cartons, printed blanks and outers, litho-lamination, plastic cartons to shelfready packaging, Weepac provides customized solutions for various packaging needs. We recently met Naimesh Naik,
founder, Weepac to talk about his company and his latest installation of a Komori 6-color press at his unit.
“At Weepac, we produce packaging across different materials like paperboard, plastic and combination of plastic and board packaging. We have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry and have offered our expertise to brands across the globe,” says Naik.
In January this year, Naik was part of the team that attended Ryobi’s open house in Japan. It was around then that Naik was shortlisting a press for his unit in Gujarat. Somewhere around June, he decided to install a Komori GL 637 6-color press instead. Says Naik, “I have a very strong reason for choosing Komori over any other press. I wanted to invest
in a brand new machine that was meant only for packaging since that is our forte. Komori GL 637 not only fulfilled all my expectations but also offered complete automization. Everyone knows that 28 x 40 inch is the ideal choice for packaging but I chose a 25 x 37 inch press because I am now concentrating on short-run jobs that will yield more returns than long-pulling jobs. Komori introduced this press specifically for the packaging sector, so I was further convinced by that. The machine’s running cost is very low as compared to that of any other 28 x 40 inch press in the market.”
Naik shares that he did not face much issue in securing a loan to purchase the machine as the machine was 50% self-financed. The Komori GL 637 is a 6-color press with UV+coater for high added value work required for package printing. The press offers a maximum printing speed of 15,000 sheets per hour and can handle paper thickness up to 0.8 mm. Having been shown at international exhibitions such as drupa 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany and China Print 2017 in Beijing, China, the GL 637 gained popularity in expanding sales performance mainly in commercial printing in Asian markets.
Naik shares, “I am very confident that the Komori GL 637 will be a great value-add to our unit and help me produce jobs of the highest quality for my customer base.”
Apart from the latest Komori press, Weepac’s facility has an old Komori 6-color + coater press, a Chinese automatic dry-lamination machine, a Bobst Novacut, a Visionfold 110
folder-gluer, a Pick-and-Place and Window Patching machine (patented technology from France and a first in India), a soft creasing machine and a plastic straightening machine. Naik recently bagged an order from a major South India company, details of which he refused to divulge.
