Dhunseri Poly Films PL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dhunseri Ventures Limited, was incorporated in November 2020 for the implementation of a new project for manufacturing of biaxially oriented films. The project discussions and planning with Brückner Maschinenbau took place during a peak phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. At a newly built plant in Panagarh, the installation of the first 10.5 meter-wide BOPET line began in September 2023 with production commencing in December 2023.

Panagarh is about 155 kilometers northeast of Kolkata and just south of Durgapur in West Bengal. In the second phase of expansion, Dhunseri Poly Films is putting up two BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene Films) production lines to be installed in the 2025-2026 timeframe.

According to the press information on the Brückner website, the 10.5 meter-wide BOPET line is equipped with Brückner’s unique multi-gap machine direction orienter, realizing high temperature stretching technology for A-grade film quality at a consistent level. Additionally, the advanced sliding chain track system ‘FOK 8.8’ in the transverse direction orienter allows the operation of the BOPET line at high speed constantly. This will significantly reduce chain maintenance and refurbishment thereby increasing the uptime of the line and reducing production costs.

Chandra Kumar Dhanuka, Dhunseri’s chairman and managing director, says, “As a newcomer in the plastics film industry we were looking for an experienced partner and the best technology. Both we found with Brückner. Moreover, our two teams were a wonderful match from the very beginning.”

Johann Kreilinger, head of Sales Middle East, Subcontinent at Brückner Maschinenbau is absolutely happy with the new partnership, “During the entire project, it was an honor to deal with such a highly professionally managed company like Dhunseri. We are therefore even more pleased that the cooperation continues with two upcoming BOPP film lines and are extremely happy to have got the chance to become Dhunseri’s partner for very challenging projects.”

Dhunseri Poly’s parent company Dhunseri Ventures Limited, is a major player in the petrochemical business with plants in India and Egypt. Further, the company had entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Indorama Ventures Public Company, a global chemical producer. The Dhunseri group is headquartered in Kolkata, with business interests in BOPET films, bottle-grade PET resin and tea.

Indorama Ventures, listed in Thailand, is a leading petrochemical producer, with a global manufacturing footprint across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia Pacific. The company’s portfolio comprises combined PET, integrated oxides and derivatives, and fibers aimed at several industries including automotive, FMCG and consumer products.
