Over the past four decades, Jain Transfer Products in Noida has become one of the reliable suppliers of complex and high quality label solutions in the country. The company supplies pressure sensitive labels with authentication and variable data solutions primarily to the healthcare, home and personal care, food and beverage, consumer durable, garment and promotional industry and segments. Its large battery of narrow web flexo presses and the Domino N610i inkjet digital press plus specialized ancillary inspection and slitting equipment making it one of the larger label solution providers in the country.
In 2021, when the economy was barely recovering from the lockdowns of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jain Transfer Products made a significant leap in its production capabilities by installing a 7-color Domino N610i digital printing press at its Noida plant. It seemed a brave investment at the time, and there were some technical challenges but it has paid off over time – by adding value to the company’s flexibility, short-run and quick turnaround capabilities. The overall workflow has benefitted by having this option in the pressroom, which helps the narrow web flexo presses efficiently focus on the mid-length and long-runs that they are suited for.
Rishab and Parshav Jain, the third generation partners in the company share insights into their legacy and the innovation and cutting-edge technology that the Domino N610i digital press brought into their business. Rishab Jain recalls that their grandfather, the late Puran Chand Jain, established the company in 1980. “Initially, we specialized only in transfer image products and have since evolved to become pioneers in pressure-sensitive labels. Over the years, under the leadership of our father Sudhir Jain, we have expanded our offerings to cater to all market segments.”
The company was one of the first in the country to introduce roll-to-roll labels. “Today my brother Parshav and I are continuing this legacy by specializing in self-adhesive and multilayer labels. Our products are used across industries, including FMCG, pharma, cosmetics, and others,” he adds.
New horizons with Domino N610i
The company currently specializes in creating customized products and assisting customers in developing labels tailored to their specific needs. Due to its digital printing capabilities, it can offer advanced security printing and multilayer labels to enhance the functionality and security of products. “Our production equipment includes flexo machines, a roll-to-roll screen printing machine, multiple defect detection systems, and the Domino N610i digital printing press, all designed to deliver the exceptional quality and reliability desired by our customers,” Rishab Jain explains.
With the emergence of eCommerce, startups, small brands and private labels came to market in numbers. The market shifted from longer-run-length work to short and medium-run-length label requirements. “We aimed to serve this growing market trend without sacrificing money on a click-charge option. In 2019, during the Labelexpo in Europe, we explored various technologies and then followed up with a few trials in India. We found that the Domino N610i aligned with our requirements and those of our customers.”
The ever-decreasing lead time and customer demand to compress it further was a factor in the company’s choice of the Domino N610i. “Since we deployed the press, it has not let us down in delivering products in tight timelines. The digital press enables us to execute value-added printing tasks, such as embedding secure codes inside labels for authentication. These specialized jobs are essential for high-value products, ensuring both quality and security,” he said.
According to the brothers, the advanced fixed 7-color output powered by the Esko Digital front end has enabled the company to achieve an extended color gamut with ease. “The high standards of the machine were helped by the after sales support by Domino’s service and support team.”
During the pandemic, there were widespread concerns, some supply chain issues and economic constraints to be overcome. Packaging was required as never before, but due to a lack of labor and the non-availability of printing plates, it was difficult to operate conventional presses. “Our clients supplying non-essential goods willingly shut down temporarily while several clients in essential segments such as pharmaceuticals, drug manufacturing, edible oil production, and sanitizer companies needed our support to keep their operations running. The digital technology of the Domino N610i opened new segments and print options for print service providers like us. As run lengths have decreased and print quality on inkjet presses has risen significantly, digital technology has served as a wonderful solution,” says Rishab Jain.
