Brands under P&G like Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences, and Aussie will launch shampoo and conditioner bars in a volume similar to 250 ml liquid bottles packed in FSC-certified recyclable paper boxes. These soap bars will join in the company’s contribution to reducing the use of virgin plastics by 10,000 tonnes in a year.
P&G states that they have introduced new soap bars according to the customers’ preferences. They have been made to match their liquid equals to create more lather, scent, and clean hair. Head & Shoulders will launch the first active anti-dandruff shampoo bar with massaging properties, and Aussie will be the first brand to introduce a solid conditioner bar.
P&G stated that the size of the new shampoo bars would be similar to the 250ml liquid shampoo bottles, and the bars from Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Herbal Essences, and Aussie will be available in easy-to-hold shape with cotton rope blended in it for hanging in the shower.
About new P&G shampoo bars
The head at P&G Europe, Arthur Litarowicz, mentioned the new shampoo range at the Reuters Responsible Business Summit. He said they are working to raise the sustainability bar, and the new handmade bars are being bought across its total hair care routine in Europe.Â
He further added that these new products give customers a good experience due to their creative shapes and scents, and the paper boxes are made with FSC-certified paper to reduce the use of virgin plastic.
Consumer research by P&G found that more than 75% of its customers were in to buy the beauty products with the recycled material packaging, and 65% of the customers have tried this plastic-free packing. Around 24,000 people from Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the UK have taken the consumer survey.
Before the Reuters Responsible Business Summit, P&G worked with Paula Chin, a sustainable materials specialist at WWF UK, to implement the company’s viewpoint on the role of brands in impacting plastic waste reduction.
Plastic pollution reduced for consumers
Chin further added that plastic pollution was harming the environment and destroying nature. Governments, businesses, and we will have an important role in managing this issue.Â
Consumers are becoming aware of this eco issue, and P&G is playing a vital role in reducing the use of plastics with the new products. However, we must see more action to deal with the natural problems like climate change, pollution, waste, and nature loss.
From FY 21, P&G has gone through a sustainable product journey. From December 2021, most of their bottles were recyclable, reducing the amount of virgin plastic by 10,000 tonnes a year. Most of the shampoo bottles in Europe are made from biodegradable plastic.Â
P&G also initiated The Good Refill campaign to provide a refillable bottle system to Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Aussie, and Herbal Essence. These products used aluminum bottles and refill pouches.
