Sustainable luxury packaging from Mondi. Photo Mondi

Mondi will showcase its latest sustainable packaging and paper solutions based on its Pergraphica, IQ Grass + Packaging and IQ Board brands at the touchpoint packaging (tpp) forum at drupa 2024 (Hall 3, stand B31). These premium papers are uniquely suited to luxurious packaging applications and various types of personalisation, such as laser engraving. At two of the tpp’s five focus areas, Mondi will be addressing a number of sustainability issues, including deinkability, recyclability, cradle-to-cradle certification and consumer trends. Prototypes of luxury perfume packaging, developed in collaboration with the NABA Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, as well as presentations on finishing options and sustainability efforts in the paper segment round out Mondi’s exhibit at the trade fair.

Luxury is tangible

Choosing the right paper is a critical step in any creative print and packaging project. Mondi’s Pergraphica brand of premium design papers offers a multitude of opportunities for luxury packaging. One factor behind this versatility is the broad colour palette, ranging from three shades of white with rough or smooth surface texture to Infinite Black and 31 distinctive colours. Another uncoated paper with high tear-resistance is IQ Grass+ Packaging, which is made of FSC-certified fresh fibre pulp and up to 30% grass fibres. The small visible grass fibres lend IQ Grass+ Packaging an unmistakeable, characteristic and natural appearance. IQ Board is an uncoated virgin fibre premium paper that has been optimised for seamless processing in printing, filling and finishing. It is ideal for striking packaging designs. All of these papers, with their natural texture, offer the intense haptic experience that is in such demand in the premium packaging segment. Visitors to the trade fair are cordially invited to drop by the tpp and see these products first-hand.

Extensive portfolio of sustainable papers

Mondi’s premium papers are produced in Austria with wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. All papers on exhibit meet the strict international requirements of cradle to cradle-certified®, the EU Ecolabel and FSC.

“Through our diverse portfolio of sustainable and certified paper products, we help our customers to successfully build their print businesses in a market environment that continues to be very volatile. We are innovators, and we work in partnership with manufacturers,” says Bernhard Cantzler, marketing and sales director at Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

tpp – The complete value chain in a single forum

One of five special forums at drupa, tpp is host to Mondi as well as other leading companies in the paper and packaging industry. It is the ideal platform for bringing together experts and brand owners across the entire packaging value chain to share ideas on key issues in the industry, network and collaborate. At tpp, trade fairs visitors and potential new customers – from start-ups to multinational brands – can learn about the latest trends and technologies in packaging design and production.

The tpp stand is designed with five focus areas. Mondi is concentrating on two, Neo-Ecology/Sustainability and Consumer’s Mind, where it will be addressing the following topics: reusing packaging; packaging as a service; barriers for food packaging; reusability and recycling of post industrial recycled (PIR) and post consumer recycled (PCR); the seamless, transparent and sustainable value chain; opportunities and limits of papermaking; re-commerce; consumer to manufacturer (C2M) and zero waste; individualisation; increased mobility; inclusive and diverse thinking; silver ager society; the need for security in times of crisis; reduced financial strength; urban living; and new work models.

Other highlights of Mondi’s trade fair programme

As another highlight, Mondi will be presenting the results of its collaboration with the NABA Academy of Fine Arts (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) in Milan. In a joint project on luxury packaging, students worked with Pergraphica papers to create various packaging designs for a bottle of perfume. Mondi will also be providing insight into laser engraving, based on packaging samples made of paper cut and finished with a special laser.
